undomondo: Mulatu Astatke

Thanks. I heard an Astatke track a couple weeks ago and it really stuck with me. The "combination of Ethiopian five scale music with jazz and fusion" sounds cool. I'm going to have to figure out what that means. :)

It should have read "combination of Ethiopian five-tone scale music with jazz and fusion", and that means the pentatonic scale..
    :)

Fantastic stuff isn't it. there's also a killer piece of wax doing the rounds called Mulatu by the Nephews of Fela. You can hear it (track 3) on a recent podcast of mine over at textureDJs.

I am very happy to find things that help to know Mulatu Astatke. He is one of the most admirable musicins we are lucky to have in this world. Words are not enough to express my heart-felt appreciation for what HE has been doing with regard to Ethio-jaz music.
I can't help being captivated by every effort that HE makes.
